I just saw a man risk a sure fire fight
On the two hour ride
Back home with his current wife
What was he thinking?
A man reputed for being calculating
Again, contradicts himself, poise unraveling
In public, amidst the display of trousseau,
feed the probing eyes
Despite the tug of the displeased wife
He couldn’t resist this
Roll the dice,
take the risk
Up to the sun
Predictably go down, wings burning
Fail again to rend, his incarnate of yearning
Faces close in, blinded, one more time
Rekindle what he could never get past
Or leave behind
When you settle for less
Tongue bit, back turned, for sanity’s sake
All the pain that comes
To relive where he lost you again
Must be worth to escape
The state of being maddeningly safe
