Reeling

I was told be careful
Which button to push
As one could shut it off

And what’s lost
Has nothing left to lose
Afterglow and clot

But we’ve done
Everything except an honest conversation
Or some kind recognition
About what fireworks do in a sable sky

About how you and I
Felt empty
immediately by the afterglow
I was too greedy
Digest the slow
Admission of what can’t be

You lie still
Still you lie

I’d trade all my sanity
For a glimpse of those bright lights
